A local originals source
The iPhone & iPad and Android companion apps are not released yet — they aren't on the App Store or Google Play, and this guide describes the builds in development.
A Mac-synced library normally streams full-resolution photos from the Mac. If the originals also live somewhere the device can reach directly — a USB-C drive, or a NAS — you can attach that folder and open full quality without the Mac.
Attach
- Open Settings → your Mac-synced library.
- Choose the attach-local-originals option and pick the folder holding this library’s photos.
- The app verifies the folder actually matches the library before using it — a wrong folder is reported, not silently accepted.
While attached
- The library is read-only: deleting, favouriting, album and face edits are blocked so the local view can’t drift away from the Mac’s copy.
- If the drive is ejected or the NAS drops off the network, the source detaches itself and the library returns to normal.
- Detach manually from the same screen any time.
